15 GOOD REASONS

1. Location

University of Canberra Village is located on-campus at the University of Canberra. It takes a maximum of 10 minutes to walk from the Village to any other part of the campus, 5 minutes to get to the University’s library and 15 minutes to get to the city centre by bus. Many students of the University live in different areas of Canberra and travel can take up to one hour. Living on campus will not only save time but also transport costs.

2. Quality facilities

Village facilities have all been designed with the specific needs of students in mind, from studying to socialising. A comprehensive refurbishment program has been drawn up to ensure that the facilities will continue to be in excellent condition for residents.

3. Variety of choice

Whether you want a private study/bedroom with an ensuite bathroom or the more communal living of shared kitchens and living areas, we have a choice for you. We can also offer special areas of accommodation such as graduate/mature age sections, women only accommodation or facilities for students with disabilities upon application. We will try to accommodate your preference wherever possible.

4. Fully furnished apartments

All accommodation at the Village has a basic furniture package included. Rooms contain a single bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, notice board and bar fridge (in some areas). Common kitchens and living/dining rooms contain standard lounge and dining furniture.

5. Self catering

All residences have common kitchens with bench tops, a microwave, electric oven, hot plates and a refrigerator. All you will have to bring are some pots and pans, your personal cutlery and crockery and your culinary skills. Meals can also be purchased at the main campus on Mondays to Fridays.

6. Easy access to a wide range of services

The University of Canberra and the local area provide all the services you may need for the complete University experience. Health services, hairdressers, bars and banks can all be found within 10 minutes of the Village.

7. Intranet and internet access

All rooms in the Village have a network port, provided by the University of Canberra.

There is a fee for usage.

8. Security

Security guards patrol the property after hours. This, along with appropriately placed lighting, helps to maintain a secure environment for residents.

9. Value

Weekly residential fees start from $135.50 for a fully furnished bedroom in a residential hall, with a maximum of $297.00 per week for a one bedroom apartment with an ensuite.

10. Flexible payment systems

In many ways this is more important than the actual cost of the accommodation. It would be great if everyone paid the full year’s fees up front, but we do understand that is impractical for most. In an effort to make it as easy as possible for residents to pay fees, you can pay fortnightly. At any time during your stay at the Village you will be able to access your account to keep an idea of what you have spent and what you owe.

11. Quality & diverse dining options

Gone is the expectation that residents at University will eat 21 meals a week at relatively inflexible times of the day. A variety of food options are available near the Village and on the University campus. All campus eateries, from cafés to sandwich and hot food bars, are operated by professionals who have extensive experience in catering for a student environment.

12. Community living

We know that university life does not finish at the end of the final lecture, but potentially continues into the evening or over the weekend. Life at University of Canberra Village is not only conducive to studying, but also has a strong social aspect. Our community atmosphere is based on mutual respect, acceptance of diversity and consideration for others.

13. Residential Assistant Programmes

As part of the Village community, there are a number of Resident Assistants (RAs) who work with the Village Director in providing general support, social programs and more at the Village. RAs are senior students who maintain a constant and stabilising presence in the Village and provide support and enrichment for fellow students in personal, social and recreational matters.

14. Vacation accommodation

Limited vacation accommodation is available for residents during the summer break at vacation tariffs. To facilitate cleaning and security, you will be required to move to designated blocks during the vacation period.

Vacation accommodation will incur extra costs.

15. The atmosphere

University of Canberra Village’s diverse mix of cultures and backgrounds ensures that it is an exciting place to be part of. We receive interest from students of all ages, from mature- aged students doing their Masters degrees to first year undergraduates. Local, interstate and international students are also well represented at the Village. There are no rigid or stuffy traditions, dated rituals, academic snobbery or hierarchical issues. A responsible social and community attitude is encouraged.
